How To Protect Your Car’s Paint Job Without a Garage

Does your car have a new paint job you want to last for a long time? We’ve got some tips on how you can protect your car’s paint job, even if you don’t have a garage!

Carnauba Wax

One of the most basic but effective ways to keep your car’s paint job shiny and fresh is applying a coat of natural carnauba wax. Carnauba wax isn’t just about giving your vehicle a glossy sheen (although that is a benefit); it’s also about adding layers of protection.

Fun Fact: Carnauba wax comes from the carnauba tree in Brazil. The tree’s leaves are dried and then beaten to release the wax without harming the tree.

One of the most harmful everyday things that can damage your vehicle’s paint is the sun’s ultraviolet rays. Natural wax gives your vehicle an added shield to fight off UV rays. It’s generally recommended to wax your car every three months, but a sure sign is when water on your vehicle doesn’t bead over the paint job.

Paint Sealant

A step up from wax is paint sealant. If you’ve ever bought a new car from a dealership, they probably offered to add paint sealant to preserve the paint job as a bonus. It may seem like an expensive add-on, but paint sealant has many benefits.

Paint sealant is a mixture of synthetic polymers that makes your vehicle shine and protects it from UV rays, tree sap, dust, and anything else that may damage a paint job. Paint sealant lasts up to six months, so you don’t have to apply it as often as wax.

Ceramic Coating

Another step up in paint protection is ceramic coating. You can apply ceramic coating to your vehicle yourself, but if you’ve never done it before, we recommend consulting a professional to ensure it’s applied correctly and you don’t waste your money.

Pro Tip: If you are applying a ceramic coating yourself, it’s best to go section-by-section and rinse it immediately after washing to avoid streaking and spotting.

A ceramic coating is excellent for shielding your vehicle’s paint job from the elements, and it’s built to last up to five years! Ceramic coating is costly, but it’ll last 10-times longer than standard wax and offer more protection.

Car Cover

Last, but certainly not least, we have the old-fashioned car cover. It’s simple and affordable but undeniably effective in keeping your vehicle protected from the elements day and night.

A good car cover will keep sunlight, tree sap, bird droppings, grime, and anything else off your car’s paint job. It’ll take a little more effort to securely fasten to the vehicle, remove it, and store it, but the reward is a paint job that still looks new after years!

Keeping your car’s paint job protected without a garage can be a challenge for any driver. Keep our tips in mind to preserve your vehicle exterior’s vibrant color and sheen.
