Hyundai i30 Turbo First Look

Hyundai i30 Turbo

With the all new Hyundai i30 Turbo about to be released, it’s time to have a first look at it. Read on to find out what it does well and what it doesn’t.

Appearance

The first thing that strikes you when you look at the new Hyundai i30 Turbo is how sporty it looks compared to other cars in the Hyundai range. The grill is redesigned and makes the whole car look a lot more sporty and dynamic. The outwards appearance of the car is just the beginning though.

Where it really surprises you is on the inside. The interiors really stand out from the crowd, and make the outside of the car appear dull in comparison. And that’s not a criticism. The leather and the stitching is incredibly detailed. The attention paid to the small things elevate the interiors above any other car around.

Under the Hood

The top speed of the car is 136 mph, which should be more than enough for most of the people who are likely to buy one of these cars. The 1.6-litre petrol engine is powerful and punchy. There are numerous customisation options that allow the driver to decide how they want the car to drive.

For example, there’s a Flex Steer system. This allows you to choose between sport, normal or comfort options. All of the options are smooth neat with subtle variations in how they feel when you’re driving. The braking system is powerful and assured as well. All in all, there’s not much to fault.

Practicality

There’s more space in the back than you might initially realise when looking at the car from the outside. It looks compact from the outside, and it is. But not so compact that you feel cramped when you’re riding in the back seats. This makes it good for families who need lots of room in their hatchbacks.

The space in the boot is pretty good as well. You get more than you’d find in most hatchbacks. But if boot space is a bit priority for you, you can probably spend your money better elsewhere. Hyundai seems to be targeting parents with a sporty side with this car. It remains to be seen whether this market is big enough to make the car a success.

How Does it Compare?

It’s a bit early to say how it compares to other cars on the market. It certainly has an advantage over other Hyundais for people who want a car that’s a little more sporty. But there will be cars at your local Hyundai dealership that are more practical and focused than the i30 Turbo. It’s a little hard to see who Hyundai are aiming this car at.

Having said that, the car is incredibly fun to drive. And this is the big advantage it has over other cars in its category as well as other Hyundai models. Not many other cars are as fun to drive and as stylishly designed on the inside as the i30 Turbo. Now it’s time to see how drivers will respond to it as it lands on the market.
